SCOTUS UPDATE

June 15, 2020

In a clear celebration of Pride Month, SCOTUS issued a 6-3 ruling confirming that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employers from discriminating on the basis of sex, also protects sexual orientation and transgender status.

In a surprising 5-4 ruling, SCOTUS, blocked the Trump administration from terminating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This ruling preserves, for the time being, the Obama administration’s policy protecting hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.”

The Bar Council of England and Wales and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), have joined together to push gender equality to the foreground with the Women in Law pledge. By taking part in the Women in Law pledge, signees vow to set gender equality targets within their organizations and help effectuate change.
